I had no idea Halifax had any sort of manufacturing sector, other than... lobster traps. And maybe boats.

The Halifax plant operated for a very long time, my 1991 940 was built there. IIRC, it was the first foreign-owned auto plant in North America since the 1920s.

Yup, the Halifax Volvo plant operated all the way until around 1998, starting in 1963! The building is still there now, split up into various companies and businesses....not sure what’s in there now, but I’ve been past it many times! :)

Any difference between “Assembled
” vs “Built
”?
With “
Assembled In”, I’m
picturing
a kit from Sweden
where they bolted in the seats and
wheels
using the included allen key and
following indecipherable
instructions printed as a list
of icons and then calling it good
.

There was a window sticker on one of my old Volvos, since sold, that was the same. I’m sure I had that sticker somewhere too. It’s at the bottom of the rear window, you can barely see it without zooming

Built would be all the panels being pressed there, seats and interior made and molded there, etc. The ones assembled in Canada I believe were made from CKDs (c
omplete knock-down kits)
. So the assembly process would’ve been the same as in Sweden, but the components being assembled weren’t made in Canada.

It’s an hour away from me, sadly!
